The 47-year-old comedy singer has revealed he’s been struggling financially over recent months and Jon intends to use some of his £250,000 prize money to clear his debts.

Jon – who sang on cruise ships prior to the coronavirus pandemic – told The Sun newspaper:

‘I haven’t worked since March. We have no savings. My wife has been a stay-at-home mum. This money has really got us out of a tough situation’.

Jon also intends to help out some of his friends and family using his prize money.

    He said:

‘Short of paying off our overdraft, I’ve got friends and family that I can help out. I’m also going to give a lot of money to needy children because I’ve got children’.

Jon admitted that winning the ITV show has allowed him to remain in the entertainment business, rather than getting a “normal job” simply to pay his bills.

The TV star – who has sons Nathan, 15, and Alfie, nine, with his wife Emma – shared:

‘I’d have had to get a normal job outside of the entertainment business as I wouldn’t have known where my next pay packet was coming from’.

Jon actually won the Britain’s Got Talent final by an impressive margin, receiving 35.7 percent of the final vote.

The singer gained more than double the number of votes of his nearest rival – Sign Along With Us, the children’s choir who use sign language.

Elsewhere, Steve Royle came in third place with 14.1 percent of the audience vote, ahead of fourth-placed comedian Nabil Abdulrashid, who had 13.9 percent of the vote.

Jon’s triumph also means he’s now set to perform at the Royal Variety Performance.
