Ben and Jen’s relationship started in 2002, when both actors starred in the – quite forgettable – movie Gigli. They would go on to be the talk of the papers, with fans following their every PDA.
But all good things come to an end, and in 2004 Ben and Jen called it off.
This year, though, everyone’s dream is finally happening – Ben and Jen are back together.

Ben and Jen: A Relationship Timeline
The Ben and Jen saga starts way back in 2002 when they both took the leading roles in the movie Gigli. At the time, Jennifer was married to Chris Judd.
By July that year, they’re seen cuddling at a birthday party, and later that same month J.Lo files for divorce.
J.Lo’s 2002 hit ‘Jenny from the Block’ finally confirms their relationship. In the video, Ben and Jen appear to be hunted by paparazzi, and Ben manages to send the clip viral in a scene where he kisses J.Lo’s backside.

By the end of 2002, Ben and Jen are engaged. Ben proposes at his mother’s house in Boston with an infamous pink diamond ring. But all is not well – there are rumours of Ben cheating throughout 2003.
A day before their wedding in September 2003, the couple release a statement saying they are postponing their nuptials.
Finally, in January 2004, J.Lo releases the statement that everyone has been dreading.
“I am confirming the reports that Jennifer Lopez has ended her engagement to Ben Affleck. At this difficult time, we ask that you respect her privacy,” the statement says.
Both actors move swiftly onto other people. Jennifer marries singer Marc Anthony five months after the split, while Ben starts a relationship with Jennifer Garner, who he marries in 2005.

17 years after their split in May 2021, Ben and Jen are pictured together in Montana. The same summer, we got the confirmation we’ve been waiting for – they’re a couple again!
In the early months of 2021, rumours were afoot that the two famous lovebirds were back together, but in July they finally confirmed publicly what everyone hoped was true.
Jennifer makes the two of them Insta official with a birthday post in late July. “5 2 … what it do” she captions the pictures, which show Jennifer partying on a boat, including a sultry picture of major PDA with Ben.

In an interview, Ben Affleck admitted that he was worried about the prospect of getting back with Jennifer, if only for the media fallout. However, the actor had another thing in mind.
He clarified: “My responsibility to my children is the highest responsibility. I don’t want to do anything that is painful or destructive to them if I can help it.
My life affects them. Me and their mom are celebrities. That is hard. That is a cross to bear.”

It seems shocking to say now, but while Ben and Jen were on hiatus, both the actor and singer found long-term relationships with others.
Before his official split with J.Lo in 2003, Ben Affleck works with Jennifer Garner on Daredevil. At the time, Garner was still married to Scott Foley. Later, Ben says that this is where the two fell in love.
