Bill Gates is one of the world’s richest men, having made his fortune with Microsoft in the 1980s.

But away from his successful businesses, the 65-year-old also found time to start a family with his long-term partner Melinda French.

The couple had three children: Jennifer, Rory, and Phoebe.

But who is their youngest daughter Phoebe Adele Gates, and what does she do?

Who Is Phoebe Adele Gates?

Phoebe Adele Gates was born in 2002 and is Bill Gates’ youngest child.

She hasn’t followed in her father’s business footsteps but instead found a passion for ballet at a young age. She attended The School of American Ballet and Juilliard School in New York.

She might only be 18, but Phoebe has already amassed close to 100,000 followers on her Instagram page. Most recently, she has attended her senior prom and enjoyed a sun-soaked holiday on the island of Mustique.

After high school, she is off to Stanford University in California, following in the footsteps of her elder sister Jennifer.

Phoebe Adele Gates is currently in a relationship with Chaz Flynn. They both attended prestigious Lakeside School, a private day school in Seattle, though it’s unclear whether this is where they met.

He is due to start at the University of San Diego in the autumn.

On Instagram, Chaz frequently posts pictures with Phoebe, saying on the occasion of her birthday: “Happy birthday to my partner in crime. Love you Phoebe.”

Their eldest, Jennifer, is a 25-year-old Stanford University graduate and aspiring doctor.

She is also a keen equestrian and has represented the US at the Nations Cup, as well as founding her own showjumping stable. It was through the horse riding club at Stanford that she met her now-fiancée Nayel Nassar.

He is an Egyptian equestrian and the son of millionaire parents who run an architecture and design firm.

The middle child, Rory Gates, is a graduate of Duke University. He’s following in his father’s footsteps, and studied computer software engineering and economics, and is now pursuing an MBA.

While all three children have been helped through their early years and education with their parents millions, it’s unlikely that they will inherit any of it.

In 2014, Bill Gates announced that a large portion of his $130 billion fortune would be going to his family’s foundation after his death, with his children inheriting the comparatively small sum of $10 million each. In total, they will receive less than 1% of the total fortune.

On the subject, Bill Gates said: “I definitely think leaving kids massive amounts of money is not a favour to them. Warren Buffett was part of an article in Fortune talking about this in 1986 before I met him and it made me think about it and decide he was right.”

The Businessman’s Career

Bill Gates started Microsoft in 1975, during a leave of absence from Harvard University.

By 1985, the company had launched its first operating system, and by the time the company went public in 1986 Gates had become the world’s youngest billionaire.

The company expanded from the home computer and software world in 2001 when it launched the first Xbox games console.

By 2014, Gates had phased out of most of his roles at the company in order to focus full-time on philanthropy.

He met Melinda French in 1989 when she was just a young employee of Microsoft. They married in 1994. Now, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is the largest philanthropic organisation in the world.

Earlier this year, though, the couple announced that they were divorcing after 27 years of marriage.

On Instagram, the couple issues a joint statement, saying: “Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives.

We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in the next phase of our lives.
