4. Fetal Heart Rate

A fetus’ heart will start to beat at around 6 weeks of age. It’s usually between 140 and 170 beats per minute, by week nine.

One myth suggests that the slower the heart rate, the more likely the fetus is to be male. Supposedly a heart rate under 140bpm indicates this.

However, a 2006 study found there to be no significant difference between the heart rates of males and females in the womb.
