Arg Weight Loss: The TOWIE Star’s Health Struggles

James ‘Arg’ Argent’s health has been in the TOWIE spotlight for years now as he’s waged an endless battle with his weight – gaining ten stone since 2017.

Arg has also struggled with drug overdoses, sparking concern from friends, family and, of course, Gemma Collins. But it finally seems that things are looking up for the TV star.

So, after a difficult few years for the TOWIE star, we’re taking a look at his impressive weight loss…

Where’s He At Now?

The 31 year old showed off the results of his weight loss recently on Instagram, where he shared a ‘before’ and ‘after’ image of his body. Arg captioned the photo ‘I’m making progress, Inside & Outside. One day at a time’.

After ballooning to 24 stone early in 2019, Arg looked trimmer than ever on his Instagram post.

He first began to shed some lbs while he trained for the reality TV show Sink or Swim For Stand Up To Cancer. The show was celebrities attempt to swim across the channel.

Whilst being examined for the show, Sport scientist Dr Greg White commented on Arg’s weight:

“He’s morbidly obese.

“Almost half of his bodyweight is composed of fat and a lot of that fat is around the organs. Very bad in terms of long-term outcome.”

Arg later admitted: “I am a big guy so there is a lot of pressure on the heart.

“The fact my dad has heart problems, that was a big wake up call for me and I have to be careful.”

He Shredded Three Stone On The Show

The former Towie star blitzed around three stone after signing up to the Channel 4, as he had to undergo a tough training regime to get him fit for the swim.

Speaking about his fitness targets and Arg’s weight loss, he said: “It’s been fantastic for me. It’s been really good to get myself into a good routine and structure and to exercise every day.”

“I feel so happy at the moment. I feel good.

“I’m starting to lose weight, and the distance that I’m swimming is getting longer and longer. It’s really been fantastic for me. It’s just come at the right time.

“I think we’ve been filming for about a month and a half, if that, and we’re doing the Channel swim after three months. So, I’m just really hoping to get my fitness and stamina up.”

Arg Has Always Struggled With His Weight

In the past Arg has admitted to struggling with his weight:

“In regards to my body – I need to work on that. I need to get back in the gym and boxing again.

“I’m desperate to get back on track. I need to work on my fitness, that is my number one New Year’s Resolution – but I find it so difficult.

“I struggle to get into a routine and structure with my job – I’m here, there and everywhere.”

He Checked Himself Into Rehab

In January, Arg checked himself into a retreat in Thailand in order to recover from two drug ‘overdoses’. He was rushed to hospital twice in two months at the end of 2019 and bravely decided to seek professional help.

A source close to the star revealed: “Arg has jetted off to Thailand to start the New Year at a specialist facility.

“He has realised he needs help with his recent addiction issues and with his weight loss battle, so has turned to professionals.

“Arg is receiving some of the best care in the world and so is in an environment to finally improve his physical and mental state.

“Nobody knows when he will be back and he hasn’t put a time limit on it – he’ll be back home when he’s fit and well again and he’s determined to make that happen.”

Arg’s Weight Loss – How Will He Keep In Shape?

Arg revealed that sticking to a routine helps him to stay in shape. After being told by ITV’s Dr Ranj last May that he needed to lose 10 stone, Arg was encouraged to cut his food intake down to around 2500 a day.

This should be done with a steady loss of two pounds a week, the doctor advised.
