The 21-year-old actress - who has played school girl Bex Fowler in the soap since 2014 - has decided to walk away from the BBC One show after five years on screen because she feels now is the "right time to try something new."

She said:
'I've had such a fantastic time playing Bex Fowler and loved being part of EastEnders but now feels like the right time to try something new.

'I've made friends for life working on the show and shall miss them all'.

Jon Sen, Executive Producer, told the Sun newspaper's TV column:
'It's been an absolute pleasure to work with Jasmine.

'She's brought something incredibly special to the role of Bex and we will all miss her - both as a friend and colleague. We wish her the best of luck for the future'.

It's believed Jasmine has already filmed her final scenes for the show and will bow out next month, which could coincide with the 35th anniversary episodes.

It's not yet known how Jasmine's character Bex will leave Walford but it was revealed last month that at least one person is expected to die during a boat party.

Over the years, Jasmine has been involved in some of the soap's biggest storylines but she received particular praise last year when her alter ego - who is the daughter of Sonia and Martin Fowler - attempted suicide.

Her decision to leave comes just weeks after her friend - both on and off screen - Tilly Keeper, who played Louise Mitchell, left the show.

Louise left Albert Square in a taxi last week with her mother Lisa (Lucy Benjamin), father Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) and her baby daughter Peggy.

It's not yet known whether Steve has also quit the programme.
