Colleen Stan (NOW)
In 1983, Stan was permitted to leave the house, and even got a job as a maid – it was at this time she called Hooker to tell him she was leaving for good. Her unique case has been the subject of many books and television series.

After her escape, Stan studied for an accounting degree, and unfortunately had a string of unsuccessful marriages and a troubled child. She has also volunteered for a woman’s refuge centre, and currently lives in California.
