If your blood is a pinkish colour, this could be your body’s way of telling you that your Oestrogen levels are low. New York-based functional medicine nurse practitioner Margaret Romero says that this is highly likely, especially if it is also quite light, and you are an avid runner.
It is a well-known fact that excessive exercise can affect your menstrual cycle as it lowers your Oestrogen levels, which in turn can stop your periods altogether. Many female athletes admit to not having any periods due to this.
Although this may seem like the dream for most women, no more periods?! It is not ideal. If low Oestrogen levels are left untreated this can lead to osteoporosis – a weak bone disorder where your bones are highly likely to break due to small force. It is recommended that if you have just started to exercise, or have increased the intensity of your exercise regime, you should consult your doctor if your periods have become lighter or have stopped.

Another cause of pinkish periods can be poor nutrition, early menopause or poly cystic ovaries.
