Penny Pingleton (Amanda Bynes) – THEN

Tracy’s ditzy best friend was rarely seen without a lollipop in hand but that’s not why she was a standout character. Remember her mum? Tying her to a bed to stop her from going out? That was all sorts of yikes, especially because Penny’s mum was a racist! Penny gave the proverbial middle finger to her momma by falling in love with an African American character – Seaweed Stubbs! That cemented Penny as one of our favourite characters because she simply didn’t care what she did and who she did it with.

But what about her real life counterpart?

Amanda Bynes had been doing rounds on the internet for a good decade or so – but not for the right reasons, unfortunately. From Twitter feuds, to drug addictions and public meltdowns, Amanda seems to have done it all. But as of 2014, she’s been focusing on her studies and is relaunching her acting career. Good for her!
