Mysteriously disappearing child actors, very meta
There’s an old showbiz saying- never work with children or animals. This film, about kids being turned into mice, is a categorical no-no on these terms.
22. I feel a true crime documentary coming on…
One of the film’s most memorable sequences is about Erica- the girl who got sucked into a painting, and then slowly aged and died as her parents (and terrified nine year olds) watched on.

The doomed girl was played by Elsie Eide, and- after some extensive internet research- I have made an alarming discovery. She has no further credits and I can’t find her on Twitter. There’s a slim possibility she just went on to lead a low-profile life, but I think it makes more sense to presume she was legit sucked into a painting during the making of this movie.
23. Luke who it is
Child-star Jasen Fisher is a little less mysterious. He played Luke, the movie’s protagonist- the one Dahl wanted to stay trapped in a mouse’s body forever.

After winning a Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor for his role in ‘The Witches’, Fisher went on to win a Young Artist Award for his ensemble role in Robin Williams vehicle ‘Hook’.
24. Bowing out
Despite this early success, Fisher has no acting credits after age 11. Maybe for the best- child stars famously sometimes struggle to make a normal lives for themselves (see Macauley Caulkin above). Fun fact- he went on to some success as a professional poker player, and is now a professional golf caddy in Florida. Admirably normal, Jasen, we salute you.
