Murphy’s musical inspiration could be heard throughout Murder House
If you listen closely through season 1, you will hear clips of the soundtracks to famous horror films such as ‘What Lies Beneath’, ‘Carrie’, ‘Vertigo’ and ‘Insidious’.

Murphy also brought in subtle musical clips from Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’, which were played in the background during every flashback of the Montgomery’s in season 1.

With another nod to a modern horror classic, Murphy used the score from ‘Twisted Nerve’, a 1968 psychological thriller directed by Roy Boulting.

The main character from this film, Martin, shares some personality traits with Tate Langdon, and both characters go on to kill in order to become closer to the girls they are in love with.
