We all know that growing up in the 00s was probably one of the best generations to be born into. It was when technology was seriously developing – and we got to see it all first hand!
For people that were born in or around the noughties, they will remember certain things that became a popular trend very quickly and other things that slowly came into existence. Which ever way they ended up become the next big thing, there are definitely things that stayed in the last decade.
There were specific games we all played and definitely certain clothes we used to wear. But why do they fall in the typically 00s British category? Here are 13 things that sum up growing up in 00s Britain!
We hope most of these things take you straight back to your childhood… let’s see how many you remember!
1. The Eye Toy
This was the most revolutionary development on our gaming. When the Eye Toy was released for the PS2 we were never off our consoles.
The Eye Toy was one of the first bits of technology that allowed us to interact with the game that we were playing. A lot of people assume that the Nintendo Wii was the first, but this came way before the Wii! Which game was your favourite to play here?
2. Sims Urbz
This was, without a doubt, one of the best games that was brought out when we were younger. It took the normal Sims to a whole new level. And we LOVED it.

What made The Urbz Sims In The City different to any other Sims game at the time was that it took us away from the normal suburban town and into the city where we could go partying with the Black Eyed Peas. It was definitely the game that everyone wanted.
3. Mr Freeze
These ice lollies only cost 10p each, so in the Summer months this is all you used to eat! The best thing about them was that they were sold in almost every food shop you went into. They were delicious AND cheap. We always left half of it to melt so we could have some to drink at the end.
We used to always rush out of school at the end of the day to go to the shop outside of school so that we could get loads of these because they always used to run out if you were late leaving school. Something like a Twister ice lolly or a Fab were your second choice if you couldn’t bag yourself one of these.
4. Total 90s
These shoes were the absolute life and soul of 00s Britain. Every boy owned a pair of these without a doubt. Half of them wore them as their school shoes but todays generation definitely wouldn’t be allowed to wear these for school now.
We used to wear these shoes with literally any outfit, what ever we wore, we would put these shoes on as well. Wearing a football kit, put these on! Going to school, put these on! Going to the school disco in some jeans and a nice shirt, put these on!
5. Pop Princess CD
Who remembers this CD? I think every single girl growing up in this era owned this! This was the girly version of the Now CD’s and featured just female pop artists from the 00s.
It actually had some proper bangers on there. Great memories. If this CD doesn’t remind you of the 00s then we’re not sure what will!
6. Skins
We all used to live off watching Skins when we were growing up. We all wanted the lifestyle, but in reality it was never anything quite like it.
Watching Skins started off our rebellious stage as a teenager and we hoped we could get away with everything that all of the characters got away with. We felt like rebels watching TV shows like this and Shameless when they used to swear without any hesitation.
7. Anastacia
She was one of the best singers back in the day. We loved every single song she released. She was quite a bit of an older pop star, but that didn’t stop us LOVING her.
We will forever remember her banger ‘Left Outside Alone’, whenever that song comes on anywhere, everyone who was a kid in 00s starts belting it out. It’s good when songs bring generations of people together!
8. These bobbles
These bobbles were actually SO popular when we were younger. No-one could ever figure out how to actually use them or why they were split into two in the middle, but that didn’t stop us from wearing them!
The only problem with these bobbles were that they were prone to snapping when you were trying to tie your hair up. With the big plastic balls attached to the bobble, if they snapped the balls would smack you on the back of your head and leave you in pain for a good few minutes.
9. Little Britain
Who remembers the days when Little Britain was the highlight of your night? Literally ALL the sketches on the show were absolutely hilarious. We used to try and do our own impressions of the characters when we got together with our mates in school.
Our favourites were “No but, yer but…” Vicky Pollard, “Anybody know DUST?” Marjorie Dawes from Fat Fighters, and “I’m a lady” Emily Howard!
10. Will Young or Gareth Gates
There has never been a bigger split in the UK than at this moment in time. We all remember when these two made it into the final of Pop Idol and nobody could predict who was going to be the winner!
Will Young ended up coming out on top wth just 53% of the vote leaving Gareth Gates with 47% of the public vote. They were two very popular music artists in the 00s but we couldn’t really tell you what either of them are up to now.
11. Ice Cream van
You would get SO excited when you heard the ice cream van coming down your street. However, your heart would completely break when you asked for some money and your mum replied ‘No, there’s choc ices in the freezer’.
Sometimes you’d want to save the pocket money you got off your parents or grandparents for anytime your mum told you to eat what is left in the freezer. Today’s generation don’t get the excitement of seeing the ice-cream van coming onto the street because they’re not outside enough to see it!
12. Crush
We all loved this programme on CBBC when we were younger. They came into your school and took some of the kids out and you would compete in challenges against the person you had your ‘crush’ on.
Might sound a bit revealing and a bit weird but these were the sort of shows that we used to love. We were devastated if we missed it and tried our best to make sure we were at home to watch the next episode. CBBC was definitely up there with the best kids TV programmes.
13. Bey Blades
Who remembers spending hours playing with these when we were younger?
So much money was spent on collecting different ones and we used to always get into trouble if we brought them into school to try and swap them with our friends.
If only we could go back for one more day!
