TV presenter Ant McPartlin was expected to plead guilty to drink-driving in court yesterday.
The 42-year-old wants to admit he has problems with drugs and alcohol and also wants to apologise and focus on his rehabilitation.
A pal said: “His legal team got the court date delayed once because he had just entered rehab.
“But he knows he has to face the music. The plan at this stage is for him to plead guilty. He is obviously gutted about the whole thing and wants to focus on getting better.
“He has a lot to do to prove himself again. Hopefully this is the first step.”
He was due at Wimbledon Magistrates Court yesterday morning where he faced charges that he was twice the legal limit when he crashed his black Mini on March 18. His mum Christine was in the passenger seat when Ant’s car smashed into two cars in Richmond, South West London. Four-year-old Amaira Dandekar was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Make-up artist and ex to Ant McPartlin, Lisa Armstrong, has spoke out about her “two years of hell” trying to keep her estranged husband away to stay off the booze.
Lisa’s friends have reported to The Mail on Sunday and have explained how she tried her best to stick by the television presenter as he was going through one of the darkest times in his life.
The friend of Lisa, who asked to stay anonymous, said that all Lisa tried to do was stick by him to save him,
“Lisa has told me she’s been through hell for the last two years. She wasn’t sure if her marriage would survive, but she stood by him to try to save him. It has been so hard for her. Ant has been in such a bad way that she often feared the situation was untenable.”
They continued, saying Lisa could see that the Ant was down two years ago.
“It is a very difficult time for Lisa, but this has been going on for a while. She could see two years ago that Ant was down and things were beginning to get difficult for him. She loved him deeply and wanted to get him better – but she was open with her friends that she didn’t see how the marriage could survive.”
On Twitter, Lisa, 41, frequently likes tweets from fans, that hint that she is “in pain” and “lonely”. She has recently liked a tweet that a fan wrote which said, “I wish I could take all this pain away.”
Last week, Ant had a rough week to say the least when he was involved in a drink driving incident which involved two other cars.
Following his arrest, the Saturday Night Takeaway presenter has checked himself back into rehab after admitting he was devastated about the turn of events which resulted in the injury of a three-year-old girl.
An insider to the family, told the newspaper that Ant told his mum that he had “really messed up”,
“Ant spoke to his mum soon after. He was in a complete state. It was a very emotional conversation.”
He was charged at Kingston Police Station just days ago, and his family are sticking by him to help support him on his recovery.
Speaking to the Sunday People, Ant’s cousin Lawrence’s wife, Caroline McPartlin, mentioned that the 42-year-old he still has a lot of people behind him,
“He has a lot of support around him and a lot of people behind him. I think he will get better. You go through tough times and everyone’s behind him.”
Caroline also mentioned that she believed the reason for his problems was the split from his wife, Lisa.
In January, Ant announced that the couple had settled for a divorce after a difficult year for the two of them, with Ant going to rehab for an addiction to painkillers.
Despite their separation, Lisa has still yet to remove a picture of the two of them and their dog, Hurley, on Twitter.
Hurley has been at the centre of the couples divorce battle, with both of them wanting full custody of their beloved dog. Lisa said in January that she “wouldn’t budge.”
After the divorce was announced, Ant was said to be facing paying his ex-wife £31 million in their divorce settlement after her friends said that the reason for their split was due to Ant’s addiction.
The decision to have a divorce wasn’t easy for Ant and it has become very painful for the two of them.
Last week, it was announced that Declan Donnelly, the other half of the Ant and Dec duo, would be presenting the last two episodes of Saturday Night Takeaway by himself.
Dec, also 42, is said to have been finding the recent news about his right-hand-man quite difficult. He recently took to Instagram to thank fans for their love and support before announcing that him and his wife, Ali, are expecting their first child.
As you would expect, it has been a very difficult week for the Saturday Night Takeaway presenter, since his best-mate had to go back to rehab following his arrest. Dec was seen for the first time yesterday, since the news broke out about Ant, wearing a cap, gilet and jeans.
A source close to the Dec and Ali, 40, said that the pair are very happy that they are no expecting,
“They are both absolutely delighted to be expecting – especially as they have been trying for some time.”
It has been revealed that Ant is aware that his co-presenter is expecting a baby.
Dec and his wife decided to keep quiet about the news until they had reached the crucial 12-week mark.
The source close the couple, that married in 2015, said,
“This has come at a difficult time for them both, given everything that Ant is now going through and the pressure that has put on Dec in the past week. But their priority now is their baby and an experience that they see as the best of their lives.”
They continuing with saying that the pair have always wanted a family,
“Dec and Ali are both absolutely delighted to be expecting, especially as they have been trying for some time. They have both always wanted a family but worried that it might not happen for them. They have been keeping the pregnancy a closely guarded secret, but now that Ali is safely over 12 weeks, they are starting to let people know.
When discussing who already knew, the source did mention that the two of them have already discussed the news with their friends and some colleagues,
“They have told a few friends and Dec has told key people at ITV. Ali has also made some colleagues aware as she has been stepping back at work. She wants to make sure she takes it easy during the pregnancy. She knows it’s important for her to look after herself as much as possible.”
