I think we are all in agreement that this is the nations absolute favourite soap. It is the original soap that hit out screens back in 1960 and 57 years later the show just keeps getting more and more popular.
There have been some extremely hard hitting storylines throughout the show’s history, but the plans for this soap just keep getting better and better. Apparently, there are seven huge plots taking place on the show in the lead up to Christmas… and we can’t wait!
So, what can we look forward to in the next few months?
Pat Phelan’s assumed murder of Andy Carver was dissolved when it was revealed that he just kidnapped him and locked him in a basement. He is yet to be caught for this, but how long can Pat Phelan really keep his captive, captive?
Kate Oates, a head at Corrie has spoken out about this storyline:
“We’ve got a massive story for Phelan, you’ve all seen that he’s got a house guest staying in his cellar so we’ll be playing out that story over the autumn and we’ll see how Phelan will deal with that particular problem and whether Andy’s going to escape or not.”
Bethany’s ordeal coming to an end and Nathan’s trial
Bethany Platt has been having such a hard time on the Street at the minute. Her grooming ordeal was a story line that affected her a tremendous amount, but not only that, it was also an extremely upsetting one for us as the audience to watch.
Through the thick and thin, we have watched it all. But, after the horrors from when she first met Nathan too the disgusting time she was gang raped by all of his friends – it is all coming to an end.
So what can we expect to see in the upcoming months?
Well, Nathan Curtis is set to face trial for abusing Bethany. However, filming pictures show that he may have something up his sleeve. His first victim Mel is on the outside and it looks like she is ready to act.
Bethany and Mel were pictured fighting whilst they were on the railway line, just before a body was found on the tracks. However, we are yet to discover who’s body this actually his.
Katy Oates, a producer of Coronation Street has discussed the following:
“We’re going to see if Bethany makes it to court. It’s a huge deal for a girl her age in her position to face not one but several perpetrators and all their barristers but we still have the issue of Mel to consider.
“Nathan has a little friend in Mel who has had her brain well and truly washed by him and she is very much on the outside keen to make sure Bethany doesn’t make it to court. So the question is – will Nathan ever face justice?”
We really hope that Nathan gets what he deserves!
Eva’s price of revenge
It has been a long time coming that Eva has been trying to destroy boyfriend Aidan Connor after finding out he’s been cheating.
But, when he confessed everything about his affair with Maria, will she struggle to know what to do next? She understands that she really does love him and can forgive what he has done.
Her scheming and fake pregnancy isn’t something she can just walk back on and pretend never happened. So, what does that mean for Eva?
Producer Kate gave her opinion on the story line:
“The problem with Eva’s plan of revenge is that it’s not as easy to stop as she might have hope.
“There are massive repercussions for everyone on the street. The factory has always been a bit of a powerhouse and a major employer and Eva and Adam’s machinations having an impact of everybody who works at Underworld.
“That’s going to have a huge impact on not only everybody’s lives but how popular she is on the street”
We can’t wait to see this storyline unfold.
The end of Rita Tanner…
Rita has been on the soap for many, many years. She is one of the biggest parts of the show and is now considered a National Treasure. Sadly, all good things must come to an end.
Soon, her story line will see her diagnosed with a brain tumour and we will be able to see her battle for life over the next few months.
Thankfully, we aren’t fully sure that this is an exit storyline and it could potentially just be a plot so that Barbara Knox can be at the forefront of the story line. We hope that’s the case!
We really hope that one of the longest running characters on the show isn’t going to leave and we pray that this is just a story line to bring Rita to the forefront of the drama.
Terror for Michelle
The former landlady of the infamous Rover Return has been put through hell and back over the past few years. From the arson attack attempt on the Bistro to losing baby Ruairi, she has had some heart breaking storylines to deal with.
Actress Kym Marsh has her say on the character…
“What’s worrying is that Will isn’t even on her radar when it comes to the person attacking her and Robert, so Michelle is totally oblivious to him.
“But eventually something will happen that will terrify her to her very core – and it’s not going to be pretty at all.
To think that someone she considers an old friend could do this to her is going to creep Michelle out. She’ll go through every emotion under the sun.”
This is definitely one story line that we can’t wait to hear about!
Billy’s dark back story
Billy Mayhew, the vicar on the Street, will now have his main story line when dark secrets from his past start to emerge for everyone to see.
His relationship with Todd Grimshaw could be tested when these dark secrets begin to emerge out of nowhere. Also, their relationship with ward Summer will also be tested.
Kate, the producer of the show, discussed more about the story line we are looking forward to:
“We have a very dark backstory coming up for Billy which will have another impact on another main family in the street.”
We can’t wait to see what dark secrets he has been hiding from us all…
Carla returning to the Street
I think we are in agreement with the fact that Carla is one of the sassiest most fierce women to have ever joined the soap. After her departure she has been missed a ridiculous amount. But, thankfully, she is making a big return to the cobbles.
“Ever since I got here, it’s been rumoured that Carla’s coming back. But it was never true.
“Even the latest indications of it. Ali has only just signed her contract and she’ll be back around Christmas.
“It’s time to break new ground with Carla. I didn’t want to put her on that familiar cycle of self-destruction, recovery, followed by more self-destruction.
“What we’ll have instead are these two strong Connor women – Carla and Michelle – on opposing sides and in conflict for a change. It’ll be a refreshing dynamic for us to see.”
We absolutely can’t wait for Carla to make her come back on the show. We have missed her ever since we left and we are so glad that the rumours of her returning are absolutely true.
We only have to wait a few months for her return…
