15 Delicious British Foods That Are Pretty Strange

By Angie 6 years ago

1. Chip butties.

Carbs with carbs is never okay. But it's too delicious to say no to especially when it's from your local chippy.

2. Chips and cheese.

Yet another unhealthy British meal. It's pretty hard to say no to a portion of chips and cheese when you've been out drinking all day. Chips = delicious, Cheese = delicious, so why not put them together to make the best British meal ever created.

3. Beans and cheese on toast.

Beans on anything really is just delicious, but then when you add cheese to it...? OH EM GEE.

4. And having sausages floating around.

Why do we feel the need to add those crappy little sausages that taste like little balls of heaven? You can tell how bad they are for you but they just take so god damn good.

5. Toad in the hole.

Probably the best microwave meal ever invented. Well, maybe not THE best, but it's up there. It's the best meal to make when you CBA cooking & you want something unhealthy that you can just cover in tomato sauce or gravy without being judged.

6. Lasagne and chips with garlic bread on the side.

Just in case you thought you weren't going to consume enough carbs from the lasagne, you should maybe just add chips and garlic bread too to throw you over the edge. Lasagne, chips and garlic bread is the ultimate Weatherspoons meal when you're hungover on a Sunday morning.

7. Smiling potatoes.

Why were we fed smiley faces every day in school? They just tasted like mushed up potato with a crispy, often burnt exterior. There was nothing nice about these things and they were pretty sinister looking when you think about it. No one wants a potato looking up at you like this...

8. Curry, rice & chips on the side.

Traditional. Again, another carby meal but we just love to carb up on meals us Brits, dont we and it goes really well together.

9. Greggs Iced Buns.

Iced buns are basically hot dog buns covered in icing and they taste bloody delicious. As if Greggs wasn't unhealthy enough....

10. Fried bread with a fry up.

A fry up isn't the healthiest meal, is it! So why not add fry bread into the mix? Or eggy bread.

11. Spaghetti hoops on toast.

Covered in ketchup. Because you can never have too much tomato flavouring on your food. And if you can't get your hands on spaghetti hoops, what about the spaghetti alphabet, then you can really have some fun with your food.

12. Everything covered in gravy.

If you're up north, gravy is this brown coloured, deliciously amazing condiment that you put all over your Sunday roast or chips or anything really. But if you're down in London, gravy comes out as some strange grey/green condiment that tastes NOTHING like Bisto.

13. Greggs in general.

Have you seen that new 'healthy' diet Greggs has released? I will eat my own shoes if that actually made someone lose weight. Eating a sausage roll, sausage bean and cheese melt and a cheese and onion pasty every day for a month doesn't exactly scream healthy eating.

14. Having chip shop curry sauce on fish.

Chip shop curry sauce IS amazing....on chips. Whatever floats your boat if you want curry sauce on your fish.

15. Crisp sandwiches.

Salt and vinegar ones are the best for this with a load of butter on your bread. And the bread has to be Warburton's toastie bread because it's delicious. It's just a glorious meal all round really.
