Gregory’s Girl was a Scottish coming of age film released in 1981.
Gregory Underwood was an awkward teenager who developed crush on Dorothy when she joined the school football team, despite the coaches sexist misgivings. The film was about him doing all he can to get Dorothy’s attention even though every other boy on the football team was after her too. In the end, Gregory found himself a different girl, thanks to Dorothy and her friends matching them up. You know how the story goes….
But what ever happened to Dorothy? Well…..Dee Hepburn who played the role of Dorothy, now 54, decided to turn her back on fame after being scouted in Glasgow when she was out shopping. She was an unknown actor, but was given the role of Dorothy for the film Gregory’s Girl.
After the film she was offered numerous roles in different movies, including the lead female role in Castaway and the lead in Bolero. She turned down the roles because there had to be a certain amount of nudity and sexual content included, which she didn’t feel comfortable about.
She did however appear alongside Oliver Reed in the 1996 film The Bruce. Now married with two children, she lives in Scotland and is working at a local business development company.
