You won’t believe it but ten years have flown by since the Tim Burton version of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.’ So, where are those little scamps now? Did they all have ultra successful acting careers, or was it all a bit of a let down? We take a quick look at what those cheeky little child stars are up to these days.
1. Freddie Highmore (Charlie Bucket)
He was certainly the star of the show (if you ignore the ever-fabulous Johnny Depp), but what ever happened to little Freddie? So, what award-winning roles has the young actor taken since his days in the chocolate factory, eh?
Well, it might surprise you to learn that Freddie is now 23 years old! (And, to be fair to him, he hasn’t turned out bad looking at all.) Before he became the star of this Tim Burton flick, he had already appeared in big budget movies, including ‘Finding Neverland.’ Since the doors to the factory closed forever, Freddie has been working on various projects. In fact, he now has a rather large part in ‘Bate’s Motel’ – he plays Norman Bates! Eek.
2. Jordan Fry (Mike Teavee)
Mike Teavee was one of the most annoying characters of the entire gang. He was a brat, but hopefully the real life actor, Jordan Fry, is nothing like him. So, what has he been up to this past decade?
Well, in 2012 he joined everyone’s favourite Mean Girl, Amanda Seyfried, in the film ‘Gone.’ After that, though, things died down just a little for young Jordan. Rumour has it, he is leaving the old acting gig and starting something brand new. Apparently, he has started recording music to release as part of his first official EP. So…. watch this space.
3. Anna Sophia Robb (Violet Beauregarde)
When the famous film first hit the big screens, we all thought Violet was a little bit like Marmite. You either loved her or you hated her. Sure, she was a bit of a brat, but then, aren’t we all at times? So, where is actress Anna Sophia Robb today then?
As it turns out, this little diva landed herself a main role in ‘The Carrie Diaries.’ That’s right, in the series, she plays Carrie Bradshaw (a few years younger than she is in ‘Sex and the City’). She has also decided to start studying again, and a couple of years ago, she signed up to NYU to start a degree. Is there nothing this sassy little lady can’t do?
4. Philip Wiegratz (Augustus Gloop)
Greed was his major downfall, but is he hungry for fame? We’re all dying to know whatever happened to young Philip Wiegratz!
Well, the child star returned to his homeland (Germany, in case you can’t guess), where he has played many major roles in German films and shows. We’re not sure whether he will ever take the plunge and do another English-language film, but we’d sure like to see it.
5. Julia Winter (Veruca Salt)
She was the queen of the bratty kids, and ye we all sort of had a soft spot for little Veruca, didn’t we? So… what has happened to actress Julia Winter since this film first came out?
Unfortunately, that’s a question we simply can’t answer. The Swedish-born actress seems to have completely disappeared and were not entirely sure why. While this movie was so promising, we wonder where the child star is now. Come back, Julia, come back!
