Sure, it’s easy to get cynical about modern times and forget about all of the bad things about our childhood, but Christmas was definitely better back in the 80’s!
1. Christmas Shopping
Back in the day, Christmas shopping was me and my mum making a mad rush around town in the hope of finding everything before it closed. Now, with the internet, you could leave it all last minute if you wanted to!
Does anyone remember how good Woolworths was for Christmas? Had something for every family member in there.
2. Wham’s Last Christmas
Is it just me, or have Christmas songs been getting progressively worse for decades now? We used to have the pick of a great lot back in the day, but now every year so little pop star brings out a horrendous excuse for a Christmas tune!
The best of the best, arguably, was Last Christmas by Wham! It’s amazing to this day.
3. The TV Guides
Sure, the TV Guides still come round at Christmas and you’ll give it a cursory glance, but back when it was the only way of finding out what was on it was the seasonal bible.
I remember sitting on the floor, cross legged, the TV Guide on my lap, circling everything I wanted to watch on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. You’re so wrapped in yourself at Christmas when you’re a child.
4. Selection Boxes
As you can see by the picture, they just looked better back in our day! Not only that, but the stuff you got in them was better as well.
I reckon that if you looked at the quality of chocolate in this country throughout the years, you’d see that the 80’s had the best stuff by far!
