Shake ‘n’ Vac may just have been a pretty standard carpet freshener, but the advert, which ran for the bulk of the 80s, is one of the most memorable adverts of all time. We can guarantee you still remember the jingle, despite having not seen the advert in over 25 years. “Do the Shake ‘n’ Vac, and put the freshness back”…yep we have definitely got that in your head now. But who was the lady in the advert doing the terrible dancing? And what is she up to now…
Just in case you couldn’t remember the ad, let us jog your memory.
The woman in the advert is actually Jenny Logan, an English actress, trained dancer and singer. However it wasn’t Jenny who sung the song in the advert, it was a South African singer Miriam Stockley.
Although, all the credit for the dodgy 80’s dancing can only go to Jenny. As well as this, at the time this advert was being made Logan was in a leading role at the London West End’s Cambridge Theatre in the very first British production of Chicago.
But it’s been over 30 years since the release of the advert, so what has she been up to since?
Since the ad aired Jenny has been busy in multiple theatre productions, most recently paying the role of Fraulein Schneider in ‘Cabaret’. She’s also acted appeared on TV in several shows, including London’s Burning, Pennies from Heaven and Lovejoy.
You may have also seen that back in 2010, Jenny stuck on that pleated skirt for one more twirl, as a celebratory 30th anniversary advert.
The advert is just as hilarious as the original- I never knew carpet cleaners could be so exciting…
And if it couldn’t get any better, Jenny also helped push the brand when she teamed up with Jedward, for a sort of hip-hop version, if it can be called that.
Jenny Logan and your unwavering love for carpet cleaning products, we salute you!
